We’re not going to suggest that you make a 10-pound turkey that you’ll struggle to get into your oven, or that you do a countdown on New Year’s Eve instead of counting the bells stroking the final seconds to midnight before eating the 12 lucky grapes. At Jean Leon, we just want to help make it more straightforward and less difficult for you to choose the wines for your Christmas menus.
Because that’s the “American way,” keeping it simple and not complicating things to make life more enjoyable, a way of living that Jean Leon himself adopted as his own.
The different ranges of wines we offer at Jean Leon will take the headache out of choosing the right wine. You can go for traditional, simple, modern, or original, depending on your idea for the get-together or the chosen menu. And no matter what you pick, you’ll always be getting products with the highest quality and a piece of our country’s wine history.
Jean Leon 3055
The three wines in the 3055 range – Chardonnay, Rosé, and Merlot/Petit Verdot – have always been defined as the perfect wines for getting started with the Jean Leon concept. But let’s go even further: They’re wines you’ll enjoy immediately, that are very well made and pleasant to drink even for those who aren’t big fans of wine… And, most importantly, they’ll allow you to find the perfect pairing for your Christmas dishes.
3055 Chardonnay is an unoaked white wine that’s ideal for getting the evening started since it goes very well with hors d’oeuvres and the usual holiday appetizers. If you’re planning to move on to baked fish dishes or white meats such as turkey for your next course, our 3055 Chardonnay will continue to be a very good option.
With 3055 Rosé, a pale rosé wine made from Pinot Noir, you can add that touch of glamor to the hors d’oeuvres as well as throughout the entire meal. Salads are featuring more and more on Christmas menus as a way to make the feast a little lighter, and here, too, 3055 Rosé can be the perfect match.
3055 Merlot/Petit Verdot, on the other hand, will wow your guests. A red that’s light but with a zing to it, this wine will go with both roast meat and fish dishes in thicker sauces.
Whether white, rosé, or red, the Jean Leon 3055 range is a great option to keep it simple on your Christmas table.
The single vineyard wines
The winery’s classic wines let you fill your glass with a little piece of our country’s wine history. These wines define Jean Leon’s original philosophy and his quest to make wines “like those from Bordeaux or Burgundy” at his “Château Leon.” From the first Cabernet Sauvignon bottled in Spain to the first Chardonnay planted here, as well a Merlot to be able to make a “Pétrus, the best wine in the world,” in Jean Leon’s opinion.
Jean Leon Vinya Gigi Chardonnay, originating from the first Chardonnay vines planted in Spain, follows the rules of the art of the great whites from Burgundy. Aged for six months in new French oak barrels and then for one year in the bottle, its aromas of white fruits and tropical fruits combine with the vanilla note characteristic of the aging in the finest oak. Ideal for accompanying poultry such as capon, turkey, and poularde, and also fish.
Jean Leon Vinya Palau Merlot is a pleasant, round Merlot with no edge that fills the glass with aromas of fresh plums, but with those touches of mushrooms and underbrush so characteristic of the great Saint-Émilion wines. A versatile wine to accompany a multitude of dishes.
Jean Leon Vinya Le Havre Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva is the original wine created by Jean Leon. A very Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with 18 months of aging, it’s a dense yet pleasant wine, very well balanced, to accompany those big Christmas roasts.
Jean Leon Vinya La Scala Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva is the winery’s grand wine, made using the vineyard’s first eight hectares planted with Cabernet Sauvignon in 1963. A historical wine that will make history at your table. This Gran Reserva is for enjoying, talking about, drawing out to the after-dinner conversation… Genuine pleasure in a bottle.
Jean Leon Nativa
This new collection aims to recover the varieties Jean Leon found when he arrived in Penedès looking for the ideal property to set up his “château.” As only fitting, we launched this new Nativa range with a perfectly delicate Xarel·lo that fills the glass with its fineness, its floral notes, its gentle freshness… for pairing with everything from the hors d’oeuvres to the finest fish on your table. One worth discovering!
Wines that are enjoyed twice over: First, by our winemakers when they are created, and second, by our customers and friends when they have the pleasure of being able to get their hands on a bottle. These wines are different varieties produced in very limited productions of just 2,000 bottles, made with the liberty and boldness of Jean Leon himself. Some editions are already sold out, but with a little luck you can still find some bottles of the legendary Cabernet Franc that Jean Leon brought, or, the latest on the market, a Chenin Blanc, that legendary Loire Valley variety that’s all fineness and delicateness but with its characteristic backbone. Ideal for accompanying the traditional seafood dishes of the holiday season.
In a year that seems to quite the challenge, all of us here at Jean Leon would like to wish you very happy holidays, with the hope that, above all, we don’t lose sight of what’s most important: hopefulness and the true Christmas spirit. Cheers to that!
